Canadian Manufacturing Shipments

Earlier during the NY session, the Canadian Manufacturing Shipment gauging overall Shipments of Canada in terms of the market demand was released by the Statistics Canada. The market was expecting it to rise by 0.2% in February 2015, compared to the preceding month. However, the Canadian Manufacturing Shipment missed the mark and posted a decrease of 1.7%. This was on the lower side, plus the last reading was revised down further from -1.7% to -3%. There was a mention in the report that the drop was mainly due to the lower sales of motor vehicles and reduced production of aerospace products which weighed heavily on Canadian shipments. In terms of the monthly change, the Canadian manufacturing sales declined by 6.8%. Lastly, the report stated that sales fell in 10 of 21 industries, which means just over half of all Canadian manufacturing sector.

US MBA Mortgage Applications

Earlier during the NY session, the US MBA Mortgage Applications, which is a leading indicator of the U.S Housing Market was released by the Mortgage Bankers Association. There was a sharp decline noted this time, as the US MBA Mortgage Applications fell by 2.3% on a seasonally adjusted basis from one week earlier. This was also lower when compared to the last rise of 0.4%. Moreover, the US MBA Purchase Index registered a reading of 195.6, down from the last reading of 201.8.

ECB Event and Looking Ahead

There was a major risk event lined up in the Euro zone i.e. the ECB Interest Rate Decision was announced by the European Central Bank. There was no change in rates, which had no major impact on the Euro pairs.

Futures for the Dow Jones Industrial Average surged higher by 100 points to 18,135 and the S&P 500 index gained by 12 points to 2,108.
